Who is Fury Platinum?

Fury Platinum is a nationally recognized travel softball program representing 48 teams across 8 states on the East Coast. We have earned a reputation as one of the top college prep organizations in the country over the last 15 years by providing players with the opportunity to compete at the game’s top levels. Our home website can be found at www.furyplatinum.com.

Like many top organizations that build successful models, Fury Platinum brings a game plan for young ladies across the country wishing to develop into college softball prospects. Our Fury Platinum New England (FPNE) team operates in direct partnership with Fury Platinum’s home base in Chattanooga, TN. Together we serve to promote New England softball on an East Coast regional scale. We witness the game of softball evolving and believe a set of different ideas from other parts of the country can positively affect our area. This integration of new perspectives is a good way to grow the game in New England, thus making Fury Platinum a smart option for advanced players to compete against our region’s best programs.

Where will my team be based out of? Where will we play?

Players are welcomed from all New England states, so your team’s “home base” will be determined by the coach’s location. We currently have practice fields and indoor winter training sites available at various RI/MA locations for the 2023 season, including our own facility. FPNE leadership owns an indoor training center called the H.I.T. Center of RI. Practice schedules are made to work for families who travel, and fields are localized around a specific team’s needs. Tournament schedules are based on the team and age level; Local vs. Regional.

What Do National/Regional/Local teams mean? How do i know when I’m on one?

When you try out for any team, ask scheduling questions. Fury Platinum characterizes these teams the following ways:

  • National Team: At minimum, four D1 prospects and just as many D2/D3 prospects. Most of the team expects to play college softball. Competes at the highest level of the sport against other National level teams, and has no geographical limitations in doing so. Will always attend a reputable National tournament, usually PGF, Alliance, TCS, or USA Gold. Large investment. Very few teams actually meet this standard of play.

  • Regional Team: At a minimum, half the roster are college prospects fitting any Division level, and most of the team expects to play college softball. Recruitment-focused, typically staying in one U.S. geographical region, but competing at the highest level in that area, often against true National teams. May attend a reputable National tournament at the end of summer. Cost conscious, but seeking the best possible exposure events in a defined region. FPNE encourages its teams to operate, at minimum, at a Regional level every year.

  • Local Team: Showcase focused in a smaller, drivable region. Lower program cost. Recruitment is geared towards colleges within a couple of hours of home. May choose to compete on occasion in higher level tournaments, but rarely will attend a National tournament.

Should a 14U player skip 16U, and go Directly to an 18U team?

This is a popular question. The short answer is no; not if the 16U roster can compete against National teams in its age bracket. Going straight to 18U, while suitable for some, is a false narrative. It’s not necessarily wrong to do so, and in fact, can benefit a younger player’s development in certain situations. However the most recruitable age bracket in quality showcases is the 16U division. The bulk of players on 16U rosters are uncommitted freshmen/sophomores/juniors; this attracts more scouts to the field of 16U games. Here’s the key: when playing in Regional/National level showcase events on good fields, the 16U division is where to expect a high number of college coaches watching their prospects. Both our 18U and 16U schedules are crafted to deliver high-level, regional exposure competing against teams with similar intent.

For example, to illustrate the popularity of 16U, in last year’s 2023 Scenic City Summer showcase in Chattanooga, TN, one of the biggest on the East Coast with over 400 teams and 300 college scouts in attendance, there are 203 teams in the 16U Division vs. 93 teams in the 18U Division.

Ask anyone who truly knows travel softball, and they will tell you not to skip 16U if you can get on a team that plays in the right tournaments. Fury Platinum New England is crafted in such a manner.

How many teams does Fury Platinum New England carry?

We compete in the 18U/16U/14U/12U divisions. There is no set number, but in general, however many teams can field highly competitive schedules is how many teams we’ll have per year. FPNE does not have a quota, and each team operates as an independent unit. This means we will not throw a team together just to have a team. Our goal is quality over quantity with all levels having a like-minded, highly competitive focus. Each season we start with one team per division, evaluate the roster composition, and proceed from there to determine if multiple teams in a division make sense from a competitive standpoint.

Do you have connections for girls to get recruited?

Any organization that professes to help kids navigate the recruiting trail should be building relationships with college programs and be constantly helping to place players. In our first season with age-recruitable players, we assisted players into two D1, two DII, and one DIII program, with more on the way. The Fury Platinum organization has had over 200 of its players go on to play in college (see our Alumni page here), and leadership has built relationships across the country for well over 20 years, particularly on the East Coast and including the Northeast. Our FPNE coaches also have earned the respect and attention of coaches who trust our program’s development of talent. However, having organizational connections is not a magic bullet. Recruiting is a holistic process that involves many parts working together over time. Fury Platinum advises players and families on how to help themselves first, which is key to making your connections easier. FPNE does not make claims or guarantees about player recruiting. Beware of organizations that do. Our value proposition is simple: to provide a competitive team environment, a proven framework to follow in the recruiting process, an emphasis on development over trophies, and to help open doors for those who strive to earn it. It’s up to the player to execute.

How much does it cost?

For the 2023-2024 season, annual player tuition ranges from $1,500 - $2,800, depending on the team, age level, and tournament schedule. This does not include the cost of overnight travel. Different teams have different needs and expenses, so player fees vary per age group. Factors affecting the player fee would be the type and frequency of tournaments, annual training needs, and anything else particular for that division/age group. For example, an older showcase team will always cost more per player than a younger local team because of the higher cost of those tournaments. We have a simple methodology: Estimate season expenses minus fundraising & sponsorships, divided by # of heads. If there is excess money left over after the season, we will refund it. We openly share team expenses with every parent when requested, and our financial accounting is outsourced to our staff CPA. We intend to provide incredible value for the tuition, keep costs low, and most importantly maximize player opportunities. Please feel free to inquire with a Head Coach about anticipated program costs during your tryout.
